Turkey Greece Natural Gas Pipeline Project Offshore Survey

(TGPS Offshore)

Project Overview

TGPS (Turkey-Greece Natural Gas Pipeline System) Project covers Offshore and Nearshore Surveys & Underwater Engineering Study dedicated to planning natural gas pipeline system of about 17km for the purpose of transporting natural gas from Asian side to European side in Marmara Region, north-west of Turkey.

Both landfall locations are submitted to Derinsu before site survey. Marmara Sea crossing of pipeline/s survey corridor is designed to be 1km of width (each 500m on right and left side of centerline) along the centerline approximately 17km.

Scope Of Work

The scope of survey works cover marine survey activities with site investigations including, Offshore and Nearshore surveys and some of the meteo-oceanographic researches.

The TGPS is basically a dedicated natural gas pipeline system of about 200km for the purpose of transporting natural gas from the existing Karacabey pigging station located on north-west of Turkey to the Turkey-Greece border.

The entire pipeline system mainly consists of a first land pipeline section starting from Karacabey to a suitable landfall location on the south side of Marmara sea, a subsea pipeline section for Marmara sea crossing with associated pigging stations and a second land pipeline section to reach Turkey-Greece border with its pigging and pressure reducing station.

Offshore surveys and Nearshore surveys have completed at the same site investigation period. Research Vessel SALVOR and sister escort boat BOTHNIA were equiped with Derinsu Research Systems for completing the site survey.

During the surveys,

  • Bathymetry Study

  • Side Scan Sonar Survey

  • Seismic Survey

  • Subbottom Profiling

  • Magnetometer Survey

  • Geotechnical Survey

  • Bottom Lithology

  • Meteo-Oceanographic Studies

  • Current Metering during echosounding

  • Sea water physical analysis

  • Meteorological Data has recorded.

Survey area is given by Sofregaz between two land fall locations. The underwater route is schematically drawn with respect to Turning Points in side of the Marmara Sea. Survey Corridor is divided into 21 longitudinal lines and 33 offshore horizontal lines.
